Too Tired for Yoga? Try This

Yoga inspired practices that you can do in bed - not being modelled here!

If your sleep pattern’s been patchy lately, you’re not alone. As we go through midlife, disrupted nights can become more frequent (there’s an interesting article here about this, albeit from a US source).

Ironically, it’s on those groggy mornings when yoga can be most helpful. But those are also the mornings when hopping on your mat can feel just too hard.

On days like these, I’d like to start from my bed. Here are three yoga-inspired practices I use before I even get up:

1. Breathe deeply.
Take a few full, slow breaths. Feel the breath moving through the body. Try pairing it with a gentle affirmation like, ‘I am rested enough for today’.

2. Hug your knees to your chest.
This simple movement can ease bloating or digestive discomfort which are sometimes the hidden culprits behind sleep disruption.

3. Think of something you’re grateful for.
Even one small thing. It’s a subtle shift that can lift your mood, especially on mornings when your sleep’s been cut short.

Try these next time you’re up before your alarm (as I was this morning - thanks, dawn chorus for the blog inspiration! 😂) and let me know how you get on.
